Education Ministries

Wesley Church offers a range of education opportunities for all ages. Through study and fellowship, grow closer to God and other travelers on the faith journey. Join us in these explorations of faith and learning.

Please see the list below and contact the church office for more information.

Adult Ministry

A variety of courses are offered throughout the year, on Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and mid-week. Please take a look at the wonderful opportunities for Christian growth and education through our Small Group Ministry.

Children's Education & Nursery

At Wesley Church, the goal of our children’s program is to help our young ones cultivate their own relationship with God and to grow in their understanding of the scriptures. We also have a Children's Library in our Great Hall. Children's Sunday School is offered during the 10 am worship time each Sunday from September through June, for children pre-K (age 4) through 5th grade. Sunday school is offered at 9 am via Zoom. Nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers through age 4 during the 10 a.m. worship time throughout the year, when worship is in person. WUMC is guided by Safe Sanctuary Policy as articulated by the United Methodist Church. All of our adults who work with children are required to attend Safe Sanctuary Training and submit to a C.O.R.I. background check.

Youth Group

Youth in grades 6 and up are welcome to attend the Wesley Youth Group that meets at 11:30 am on Sundays via Zoom. New kids are always welcome! Some past activities have included: a trip to Heifer International's Overlook Farm, Youth Group Movie Night, mission trip to Maine, zip lining at Berkshire East, church sleepovers, organized carnival games for past fall festivals, trip to Living Stone Foundation, keeping a local garden on the church grounds to provide vegetables for local food kitchen, and volunteering at Not Bread Alone.

Small Groups

The Christian life is not intended to be lived alone. We were formed by God to be in connection: with God and with one another. Even though we each must take our own path, we need the support and strengthening of others to become more deeply committed Christians. It is in small groups where people receive encouragement and challenge to deepen their faith and to live out the calling of all believers to be disciples in the world. Becoming a disciple takes work. It isn’t something that just happens by spending time in worship or through the wishing of well-intended, good and decent folk. “Faith without works is dead,” says the Apostle Paul. Small Groups provide a foundational way for that work to occur. Without committed disciples, the church cannot fulfill the purpose of being the living Body of Christ for the transformation of the world that Jesus intended.

Please see the list below and contact the church office for more information.

Wesley Book Club

We meet monthly to talk about books that delve into the intersection of faith and life. If you love to read, this is the group for you! All are welcome whether you can come to every meeting or to just one or two. If there is a book you would like us to put on the list for this year, just let us know. We have been meeting on the third Monday of the month via Zoom from 9:30-11:00 am.

Bible Study

Wesley’s weekly Bible Study meets remotely on Mondays from 7-8 pm. Join us anytime during the year! We welcome anyone – from Bible study veterans to those who have no knowledge of the Bible. Prior participation is not required. So join us as we seek to illuminate our spiritual journeys with God’s Word, that we might live more meaningful lives. Please contact the office for more information or to sign-up to receive the weekly ZOOM link.

Daytime Spiritual Journey

The daytime spiritual journey group gathers weekly for in-depth discussion and prayer. Discussion centers around a chosen spiritual growth book. A different book is chosen every 8-12 weeks. We are meeting remotely by ZOOM on Thursdays at 3 pm. New members are encouraged to join for book discussion and prayer. All are welcome. Please contact the church office for more information.

Men's Group

We share devotion and study around a chosen book and lift in prayer the joys and concerns of the group members.  Meetings are held from 7:30-8:30 Wednesday evenings via zoom.

Cards & Games

This group is suspended until up-close in-person meetings can happen again. We are a laid back and family friendly group that enjoys fellowship while playing games once a month on a Friday evening.

Healing Prayer Ministry

This small group practices the principles of Christian healing prayer. We meet remotely each Thursday, but we pray all week long.

Not Bread Alone

Wesley members volunteer on the fourth Saturday of the month picking up from Whole Foods and sorting food to be distributed at the Not Bread Alone soup kitchen in Amherst. Prior to Covid, we cooked and served meals as well, and may resume that task in the future. Saturdays from 9 am to about 10:30 am.

Prison Ministry

Existing group which visits the women’s prison 4-5 times a year and provides a Sunday afternoon worship service, music, Bible lesson/discussion and personal sharing. Prison visits are not currently permitted due to Covid. We have also joined a local church effort to provide "release packs" to woman leaving prison, personal items greatly needed and often expensive for someone being released, plus personal notes of encouragement; this effort continues.

Music Ministries

The Music Ministries at Wesley United Methodist Church are exciting. There are opportunities for service through music for ages ranging from pre-kindergarten through adults. Our purpose is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music and song, encourage believers in their walk with Christ, lead the congregation in worship and provide an avenue through which individuals may share their gifts and be an integral part of the worship experience. All of our musical groups welcome new members. Everyone is encouraged to participate, regardless of experience. Whether you are a professional musician or just love music, we believe there is a place for you to serve. Please take a moment to review the many programs we have to offer and contact the church office if you have any questions.

Please see the list below and contact the church office for more information.

Sanctuary Choir

Not only are we a musical group, but also a prayer and spiritual growth group. While worship services are still virtual, we have a virtual choir to match! Members sing the anthem every other week and are collated into a lovely cohesive choir. Optional Zoom-based practices occur on Wednesdays at 7 pm, and since singing is recorded at home, you can participate from wherever you are!

Praise Team

If you enjoy playing or singing contemporary worship music, this is just the place for you. Although temporarily on hiatus due to Covid, in normal times we provide special music for Sunday service once a month and meet remotely most Tuesday evenings to rehearse for about an hour. We welcome instrumentalists of all kinds and singers of all ages.

Omega Hand Bell Choir

Bell choir is on hiatus for a couple months; please check back for more information. Normally, bell choir plays for Sunday service once a month. No experience necessary. Junior High through adult welcome. It helps if you can read music but that is not necessary.

Children's Choir

Children’s choir will sing in the worship service a few times during the school year. Format is still to be determined while worship is virtual.
